A FEW WORDS OF INTRODUCTION

The West Almanor Community Services District (WACSD) is a local government
special district, chartered by Plumas County to provide fire protection, emergency
medical services, groundwater quality monitoring and septic system monitoring in
the 600+ acre
Lake Almanor West subdivision. District boundaries coincide with
those of the subdivision, although emergency response extends beyond those bounds
to cover areas without protection along adjacent State Highway 89. Through mutual
aid and automatic aid agreements, assistance is also provided to other local agencies
and to strike teams throughout the County and State. Most of this service is provided by
the
West Almanor Fire Department (WAFD) which is the best known and largest
element of the Community Services District organization.

SPECIAL NOTICES & EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Residential Burning

Effective November 3, 2008, the residential burn ban has been lifted. This
means that during the cold and wet months, residents are allowed to burn
small quantities of natural yard debris
AFTER:
1. They have determined that it is a permissive burn day by calling the
regional Air Quality Management District at
258-2588;
2. They have ensured that their burning will stay within the criteria noted
in the
"Debris Disposal" page of this website.

(Burn permits will be required again when dry weather arrives, and the
usual burn ban will be declared during fire season.)

Emergency Evacuation

In the event of a fire emergency determined to be an unacceptable threat to
Lake Almanor West, either due to the fire itself or dense smoke, fire officials
may call for an evacuation until the threat subsides. Emergency personnel
will guide evacuees to the proper routes out of the danger area. There are
two identified routes out of Lake Almanor West in case of an evacuation:
(1) the usual main access road at the front entrance of the development, and
(2) an unpaved single lane road that intersects Osprey Loop between Raccoon
and Manzanita (this alternate route passes through a fuel break).
