REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN TEAM SPORTS (BASKETBALL)
FOR STUDENTS NOT REGULARLY ENROLLED IN BCS
We want to encourage home schooled students to participate in extracurricular sports activities. For that reason, we are providing an opportunity for those that desire this to play on one of our teams. Currently, we have combined Junior/Senior High School teams in Basketball. In order to make this fair to all while addressing the concerns of legal issues, the following requirements must be met:
1. Academic Requirements:
Homeschooled students using the School of Tomorrow curriculum must maintain an average of 1 1/2 stars per week with academic balance
Homeschooled students not using the School of Tomorrow curriculum must submit verification from their parents that they are meeting satisfactory progress requirements set by their parents.
Students that attend other schools that do not offer extracurricular sports must submit verification from the administrator of their school that the student is making satisfactory progress with a C average or above and that the school does not offer the particular sport being played.
2. Participation Requirements:
Students are expected to participate in all regularly scheduled practices. Regular practices will take place during scheduled PE classes (currently 2:25-3:30 p.m., Tuesdays & Thursdays.) Students not enrolled in the PE class will not be required to pay Elective Class fees, but will not receive a grade or credit for the class. Students that miss more than one practice between games will not be allowed to participate in the next game scheduled (consideration will be made for emergencies.) The practice uniform for all students is solid color navy blue PE shorts and light (ash gray) athletic T-shirt.
Students are expected to participate in all regularly scheduled games.
3. Behavior Requirements:
Students are expected to maintain a good attitude and good conduct, and to obey school, team and sports rules. Students are expected to respect the coach, officials, and other students. They are expected to have a positive team spirit and to uphold the school reputation in a positive way.
4. Insurance Requirements
Students not enrolled in Bethany Christian School must submit a proof of insurance coverage that will verify coverage for accidents that may occur during participation of sports activities.
5. Participation Agreement
Students must submit an activity participation agreement form.
6. Financial Requirements
Non-enrolled students will pay a one-time sports fee of $35.00 and a $5.00 per trip charge for transportation for away games.
