We
have six children:
John (a CDL
Class A licensed truck driver) lives in Martinsburg, WV,
and his hobbies include riding motocycles and watching
sports. He drives a cement mixer for
a living year-round and drives water enthusiasts and their equipment
in a bus to and from the water during the summer months.
Matthew
(a graduate of Shepherd College December '96) and owner of River Riders, Inc. ) is
married
to Laura Shevock Knott (a graduate of Shepherd College
'97). They are
the parents of our grandchildren. They live near the
Shenandoah River and Harpers Ferry, WV. They love to
travel
to outdoor conferences and enjoy all outdoor activities.
Mark (a
graduate of Shepherd
College Spring '98 and has a master's degree from UNC
, Spring 2001) is married to Rachel Hochman. They are
currently living in Morgantown,
WV, where he is a student of the West Virginia University dental
school.
They enjoy all outdoor activities and gourmet cooking.
Rebekah
(a graduate of West Virginia
University
, Spring 2000, undergraduate, August 2001, graduate) is married to
Barry
Bridgette (a graduate of WVU, Spring 2001). They live in Ranson,
WV, and she is employed at the State Farm Insurance regional office in
Frederick, MD. Barry is in management of the 84 Lumber Company in
Charles Town, WV. They are huge WVU fans and were married
at the Erickson Alumni Center on
campus in Morgantown on October 24, 2003.
Luke [1
, 2 , 3
] (a graduate of the Nashville
Auto-Diesel
College ) and his wife Kris (a WVU Pharmacy School graduate) live
outside of Martinsburg, WV. They were married on July
19, 2003. He does mechanical, farm, and excavating work and she
is
a pharmacist. They enjoy all outdoor activities.
Sarah
(a senior at WVU) will be graduating in May with a BS in
psychology.
She is not sure what she plans to do next. She loves to
travel and has visited Spain, Italy, Fiji, and
Australia
in the last couple of years.
We also have a nine-year-old granddaughter, Alexis a two-year-old grandson, Zachary, and a new granddaughter, Sierra. Some of our interests are raising rabbits , chickens , dogs , cats , and a vegetable and flower garden, a water garden, and traveling and timesharing .
Adele and Bernard (Wayne) are members of Kiwanis ---a worldwide service organization---and members of the Kiwanis Club of Shepherdstown. We are also members of Farm Bureau (30 years), MENSA , WVTEAMS , and St. Agnes Catholic Church.
While working on his doctorate , Bernard became involved with the issue of childrens' rights and genital mutilation here in the USA and throughout the world. He is working on the issue of childrens' rights through the Internet, and through local and regional presentations.
We are both teachers. Adele is a librarian at C. W. Shipley Elementary in Jefferson County ( Eastern Panhandle of WV ). Bernard is a math teacher at Jefferson High School - 9. With the aid of the Automated Weather Service, he helped setup the first online weather data server in West Virginia . He also does staff development at the local and regional level on incorporating educational technology into the classroom and is the county coordinator for Math Field Day.
We both have our MS degrees from Shippensburg University in nearby Shippensburg, PA. Adele's is in Library Science and Wayne's is in Environmental Science and Land Use Planning. Wayne's doctorate is in educational technology.
Adele is active in 4-H as an assistant leader. In 1996, she was inducted into the 4-H All Stars at Jackson's Mill near Weston, WV. This is the highest award given to 4-H'ers and those adults who are outstanding supporters and sponsors of 4-H. (Rebekah and Sarah are also WV 4-H All Stars.)
Bernard is a county 4-H resource person for small animal and pet projects. He is also the show secretary for the Blue Ridge Rabbit and Cavy Club, which usually hosts two shows per year.
