Hello! My name is Hartsel Estel Bryant. My dad's name is Hartsel Louie Bryant and my son's name is Dustin Hartsel Bryant. I was named after my Dad. He was named after his brother-in-law's brother, Hartsel Branham. He died when my Dad was very young. Unfortunately, that's about as far back as I can go. Is your name Hartsel too? Just by making it to this site, at least you must be familiar with the name. What is it like being named Hartsel? Well, it's certainly original to say the least.
When the name came over the intercom in school, you knew exactly who they were talking about! But then there are those that never get the pronunciation right - I get so tired of being called Hershel and Hansel and so on! I had a third grade teacher that never did get it right all year! I had a friend in high school that called me
"Heart & Soul". Another friend calls me "Heartless"! My favorite nickname is "Hammer" which sort of evolved from Hartsel. And I've seen it misspelled a hundred different ways! I've seen it spelled Harsel, Hartel, Hartful, Sartosel, Harstell, Hartford, etc. My name is never listed in baby name books. Talk about original! And probably the most irritating thing of all - you can never walk into a
store and buy anything pre-engraved with "Hartsel".
Yet the name is much more common than you would think! Just do a search on any search engine such as Yahoo and take a look at the results. Hartsel is both a first name and a last name. There are many similar spellings such as Hartsell, Hartselle and Hartzel. There is a city in Colorado
named Hartsel! There is also a city in Alabama named Hartselle!
There is the wonderful Professional Figure Skating brother and sister team Danielle and Steve Hartsell. There was a famous baseball player named Topsy Hartsel.Sometimes I get a little irritated and tired of people saying "What's your name again?" or mispronouncing it. I often catch myself joking and saying "I don't know what Mom was thinking!" and "Couldn't I just have been named John or Bob?" But truthfully, I'm proud to be named Hartsel! I have searched and searched the Internet to try to found out what my name means and where it originated. I have been unable to find the meaning. However, the Kabalarian Philosophy website says the following about the name Hartsel: "Dear Hartsel: The following analysis describes a few qualities of your first name. There are many additional factors (legal name, nicknames, family surname, combined names, previous names, and business signature) that contribute to your entire personality - and your entire life. The name of Hartsel has made you serious-minded, responsible, and stable. You love the security of a home and family, you are fond of children, and, as a parent you would be fair and understanding. Although you have good business judgment, you are not aggressive in your dealings because you do not like to create issues. You would be successful in any position dealing with the public as you have a diplomatic and tactful manner and possess a charming, easy-going nature which puts people at ease. People are drawn to you because they feel that you are patient, kind, understanding, and responsive. You would be effective in a career or in volunteer work where you are handling people and serving in a humanitarian way. While you are honest and responsible, one weakness that is paramount in your life is your lack of self-confidence and initiative, which causes you to put things off and avoid facing issues. Generally speaking, you have few problems with your health; however, there is a weakness affecting the fluid functions of the body."I don't put much faith in horoscopes and the like, but the above description is fairly accurate (especially the part about the bodily fluid functions! How'd they know that!). And as far as I can tell, the origin of the name is probably German. My grandfather William "Bill" Beckner said I have German-Irish heritage. (By the way I'm also red-headed!) I have put together a collection of links on this page to other sites relating to the name Hartsel or a form of it in one way or another. I would also like to hear from others with the first or last name Hartsel or a similar variation. If you would like to have your name or website listed on this page, please contact me here. Please let me know if you would like your e-mail address listed or just your name. Comments and information concerning the meaning or origin of my name are also welcome. "I am a Hartsel and have thoroughly investigated the name and its origin. The Hartsels came from Germany between 1700 and 1760, most of them settled in Pennsylvania. My ancestors, Hainrich & Eva (and my Great-Great-Great Grandfather Peter, age 1) came to Philadelphia in 1750. Their name was HERTZEL, but soon it evolved to Hartzell, Hartsell, Hartsel, etc. It has no particular meaning in German. We think it originated in Switzerland around 1550 to 1600 in the avillage of "Hirzel" which means "place where a deer rests." I have a family crest with a deer (stag) on it. There are several hundred Hartzells/Hartsels who keep in touch...we even have held National Family Reunions...the last one was near Gettysburg, PA in 1999...P.S. Topsy Hartsel, the famous baseball player, was a 2nd cousin to my dad. Their grandfathers were brothers."Thanks to Mr. Hartsel for his response. I really appreciate the information. Just be patient while the song loads. Hartsel's Jukebox Please note that there appears to be a problem with the operation of this jukebox in Windows XP. When the page first loads, a random song will play. But once you select a song from the drop-down menu, the new player window will load but the song will not play! When I originally started using this jukebox, I had tested it in Windows 95 (a & b) & Windows 98 using both Internet Explorer & Netscape Navigator browsers. It worked perfect until I got my new computer running WinXP & Internet Explorer 6.0. I have spoke with others who report the same problem using the same operating system. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on what could possibly be wrong, please let me know. Thanks. Two days after I posted the above message, I upgraded my Windows Media Player 8 to Windows Media Player 9 & now the jukebox works again, at least on my system! ![]() ![]() You are visitor number ![]() ![]() |
