Jim Ocker's
 Lake Havasu Fishing
Updated report

1-17-10-  With water temperatures staying around 500, the overall Striper and Smallmouth Bass fishing has been very slow.  The only action has been during the hour before sun rise when schools of Threadfin Shad are near the shoreline.  After the bait has moved out over deep water, a bite has been difficult to find.  An occasional fish has been found by using jigging spoons near trees in 30 feet of water or more but “the pickin’s have been slim”.  Largemouth Bass can be seen swimming near deep tules but it has been difficult to trigger a strike.  The weather this next week is promising rain and wind which will hopefully warm and muddy the water enough to start an overdo bite.

1-03-10-  The water level has been relatively steady at 447.5 ft and water temps have been averaging 48-49 degrees.  The morning Striper bite has been very slow but the afternoon bite has been enhanced by slightly warmer surface temps and winds upon the water.  Trolling anchovies have been the best tactic and has produced a few Channel Catfish along with the Striper.  Smallmouth Bass have been taken on white or chrome lipless crank baits fished parallel to fast-dropping shorelines.  Often, it has been necessary to work the lure through the same water more than once to get a bite.

12-27-09-  Striper action has been limited to early morning hours and again in late afternoon.  The morning bite near Site Six and near the Bill Williams Buoy line has only lasted less than an hour.  Best lures have been lipless crank baits and white jigs.  The afternoon bite has been on trolled ‘chovies in the trees near the old river channel in Windsor Basin and California Bay.  There have been catchable Largemouth Bass located near tules in more than 4 feet of water and Smallmouth Bass near man-made habitat.  Small jigs and worms have worked best when the surface has been calm and deep diving crank baits when there has been some wind.

12-06-09-  Striper have been active from dawn until about 8:00am in Windsor Basin and at the Bill Williams area.  Action has been good on lipless crank baits and jerk baits but it has been short lived.  Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass action has been best in the afternoon after the water has warmed slightly.
