Flat Stanley arrived in a nice brown envelope on Friday, October 11th. He was immediately welcomed by our three dogs, who wanted to play with him. We told them that he might tear if they did, so they licked him instead.
The next day, the Stieglers and Flat Stanley went on an adventure to another town.

First, Stanley found some friends to sit with. That's Mortimer the Bear, and Shea. Mortimer said he'd come along and help, since Stanley was a little too flat to buckle up safely. Shea stayed in the back seat with them and they talked the whole way. |
We stopped at a gas station on the way, and Flat Stanley made another friend, who insisted on having his picture taken with Stanley. Actually, there are three of Stanley's friends in the picture. There's Shea, and the big bear, and...can you find the other one?
By the way, Mortimer decided those bears were too big for him, so he stayed in the back seat and asked us to bring him some honey and water. |

The whole point of the trip was to see some colored fall leaves, and Stanley, while he was happy to go with his new friends, wasn't all that thrilled about looking at some trees. Then he was allowed to climb up into one, and that made him happier. Everybody got home safe, tired and happy about ten o'clock. |
For our next adventure, Stanley, Shea and I went horseback riding at our ranch in northern Arizona. The ranch we live on is part of an old cattle ranch, 26000 acres (our part is only 160 acres), that was first used in the 1860s. There are old corrals and cabins, called "line shacks" everywhere on the ranch that were built in those days and mended and used up until recently. Anyway, here are Shea and Stanley on Brandy |

After we finished riding, Stanley and Shea whizzed off on our ATV for some more riding fun. |
Oops! We just realized that you don't have a picture of the house that Stanley is staying in! Let's show you the house and introduce the family... Here are Stanley and me in front of the house. This kind of house is called adobe, and in the old days it would have been made out of bricks made with clay, straw and chicken droppings, then whitewashed (or brown-washed) and every year they would add another layer of mud over it to help keep it waterproof. The walls of this kind of house got to be over 3 feet think (that's wider than your arm is long!). |

Last , we went into a big hotel called the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. The ceiling is a hundred feet above the floor. Stanley was a bit freaked out, as there was a slight breeze and he thought he might blow up to the ceiling. |
