Legend claims that Sand Lake and Hay Lake conceived Baby Lake out of wedlock (which is now located in Northern Minnesota). When Lake Superior found out that Baby Lake was a bastard child, Sand Lake was castrated to set an example to the other lakes in the area. (The neighboring Wisconsin lakes were a bad influence on the area at the time.) Hay Lake joined a nunnery in shame and never completely developed into a respectable lake. Sand Lake lived the facade of a playboy life, hiding its secret until the era of arial photography.
