Blog For Muscle Nerds:

I Love Muscles....Dr. Ben (one of my teachers in massage school) would probably be shocked at this statement from me. While in school, I struggled with the overwhelming information on such topics as muscle origin and insertion.....innervation...and muscle actions. I've learned that knowing all there is to know about muscles is necessary for a therapist to move beyond "Fluff & Buff", (a term that  means a massage that's so light that's it's not terribly effective. The way I describe it is it's just like asking someone to scratch an itch on your back ... and they scratch a bit but they just don't get it. It can be very frustrating  for a client.)

I continually study muscles in order to provide an effective session for those seeking relief from pain in their musculature. Some massage therapists are content to stay in the "Fluff & Buff" arena, I do not fault them...it's just not for me. I offer it to those that only want that, but I am more interested in the muscle that causes discomfort, and why.  What can I say...I am a muscle nerd....thanks Dr. Ben!
