REQUIREMENTS OF NEW YORK STATE MASSAGE THERAPISTS

New York State massage therapists have completed 1,000 hours of course study.

The program at The Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage that I attended
provided the following curriculum as required by New York State:
Anatomy & Physiology (150 Hours) Eastern Massage (70 Hours)
Myology (150 Hours) Pathology (100 Hours)
Neurology (50 Hours) Swedish Massage (117 Hours)
Hydrotherapy (10 Hours) Sports Massage (17.5 Hours)
Treatment Techniques (92.5 Hours) Clinic (100 Hours)
Chair Massage (10.5 Hours) Pregnancy Massage (7 Hours)
Energy Techniques (17.5 Hours)      Independent Study (30 Hours)
Hygiene (21.5 Hours)                                                  New York State Law & Ethics (7 Hours)        
Business (14 Hours) Communications (21 Hours)
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation & First Aid (8 Hours) AIDS/HIV Awareness (3 Hours)
Abuse Survival Client (3.5 Hours)

Massage Therapists do not diagnose medical diseases or disorders. They evaluate patients in terms of health and disease in order to know what massage technique should be used and when to make referrals to other health care practitioners.
