STREAMS CLOSE NOVEMBER 15, 2010.

7/24/10 Weather to remain in the upper to mid 80's throughout the week. The fish will definitely avoid the direct sunlight, so look for mornings and evenings to be best when sun is off the water. During the middle of the day, look for deeper water with shade for any activity.
Chance to fish the Pit 3 reach is quickly running out. Road construction has begun begin just below the dam, effectively cutting off access below the dam. This means that the only access would be the stairs at the dam. Once the road construction is completed (in October), the flows will be increased, so time is running out. The Pit 3 road will be open over the Labor Day holiday, Sept. 3 through the 6th.

Baum Lake: With the heat, early morning and evenings have been best. Reports indicate the fish have gone down to cooler water. Lure fishermen seemed to prefer Kastmasters, Panther Martins. Mini crawlers were the choice for bait fishermen, though salmon eggs and powerbait eggs were doing well also. Fly fishermen mainly used pheasant tails, wiggle-tail zugs, callibaetis, PMD's, caddis.

Cassel: Lots of fishermen, with good results. Crawlers, salmon eggs, lures were all working well. Fly fishermen did well on PMD's, little yellow stones, callibaetis, caddis while pt's and copper johns were favorites for nymph fishermen. Try to avoid the heat of the day as fish are attempting to avoid the sun and seek cooler, deeper water.

Iron Canyon - Currently reports show fishing has improved and lots of fish being caught.

Pit River - Pit 3 reach access closed til Labor Day weekend, then closed again til October. The Labor Day holiday will be the last chance to fish this area before the flows are increased to unfishable levels. Hopefully a really wet winter will assist in clearing out some of the vegetation that will be inundated with the increased flows and allow some access in the coming year.

Hat Creek (wild) - Nymphing is the best, but callibaetis cripples can yield some good results. Nymph fishermen doing best on hare's ear, birds nest, pheasant tails.

Lake Britton - Crappie are biting, as are the small-mouth bass. Good bets are crappie jigs, crappie nibbles, crappie magnets. Color does not seem to be an issue at the present time - fishermen's choice! A note: Regulation change now includes blue gill and perch in the 25 fish limit on crappie, so be sure to count them in your total catch.

Fall River - Reports show good hatches most evenings. Good numbers of PMD's coming off. Otherwise, nymphs are the best bet.

< Burney Creek - Caddis and callibaetis above the falls. Below the falls, try a pheasant tail, copper john, bird's nest or hares ear.
