MOOSE MAVERICKS RV CLUB
Gold Rock Ranch November 2002

Ron & Barbara Clark, Don & Nate Conrad, Leonard & Laurina Larson, Vern & Trish McGlynn and Don & Kitty Schiffert and visited the Gold Rock Ranch November 5th - 10th 2002.

The town of Gold Rock is a mile and a half off of the Ogilby road in Southern California. It was originally homesteaded in the 1940's and is the historic site for the Tumco Mining District nearby. The ranch boasts of a past rich in history and provides historical presentation and displays.

Little remains at the site of the Tumco Mines. One can see the location of the Stamp Mill where ore-bearing rocks were pulverized by giant stamps that could crush rocks by the ton. The Cyanide vats, where crushed ore was mixed with a cyanide solution that dissolved and separated gold from the ore. Although little remains on site, the museum at the ranch contains many historical photographs and artifacts of that era.

As usual, our group likes to shop and shop we did, in Yuma we hit a Super WalMart and Home Depot and at the Mexican border town of Algodones where bargains in jewelry, leather goods and liqueurs were found. Also we feasted at several Mexican restaurants in Yuma.

Thanks to our hosts and for a wonderful time in the sun.
