ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
There's never a dull season around Lake Almanor West.
Golf, tennis, hiking,
boating, fishing and similar pursuits are common during
the warm months.
When it gets cold and the snow flies, there's an assortment
of both indoor
social activities and winter outdoor sports (cross-country
skiing, snowshoing,
snowmobiling). There's always something going
on, frequently organized
by a group of hard working, energetic people known as
the
Lake Almanor
West Community Club Auxiliary. They arrange
for regular social events
and conduct periodic fund raisers for community improvements.
The Auxiliary has its own website at
http://www.waccaux.com
and also maintains a very helpful community bulletin board,
called the "
Pinecone Telegraph," which lists local events and
other announcements at
http://www.PineconeTelegraph.com

Walking / Biking Routes
If you don't play golf or tennis, or simply want a change
of pace (pun intended),
there are ample opportunities for other forms of outdoor aerobic
exercise both
within the development and in the adjacent forests.
Walkers, joggers, hikers,
bicyclists, etc. will all enjoy the ever-changing scenery while
traveling on paved
roads, dirt tracks or even a marvelous paved Forest Service
trail that is found
immediately south of Lake Almanor West. For further
details, see the maps
found on the
walking / biking page
and the
forest trails page.
Air Ambulance Service
Auxiliary members are eligible for a low group rate for
emergency
medical transportation through
Mercy Air,
which offers both helicopter
and fixed wing service throughout northern California. This
is a comforting
thought to rural residents who often live long distances
from major medical
facilities. If you would like more information on
this service, go to the
Air Ambulance Service page
for additional details.
Special Announcements
Impromptu events, such as hikes and outings, will be announced
as early as practical on the Pinecone Telegraph and posted
on
the community bulletin boards at the mail boxes.
