LOCATION MAP
Lake Almanor West is situated in northeastern California in what Gold
Rush era
maps described simply as "unexplored territory". The development
is located on
the west shore of Lake Almanor, a few miles south of the small town
of Chester
in northern Plumas County. Lassen Volcanic National Park is about
twenty five
air miles northwest of the development, and provides a majestic landmark.
Getting Here
Driving to the Lake Almanor basin from any direction involves two lane
mountain highways that offer scenic vistas to compensate for their lower
travel speeds. From the east the area can be reached by Highway 36
out of Susanville. From the west, the primary routes are Highway
36 from
Red Bluff or Highway 32 from Chico (a somewhat slower but even more
scenic route). And from the south, access is via Highway 89
branching
off the spectacular Highway 70 route up the Feather River Canyon.
