ACES

About Aces

Aces is a versatile vocal & musical duo featuring locals Debbie Casson and Yvonne Kilby. This dynamic duo has been singing and playing music together for the past 15 years in just about every venue in the Kingman area, as well as California, Nevada and even Nashville, Tennessee in 2009 & 2011.

Debbie Casson plays rhythm guitar and sings lead while Yvonne Kilby plays two keyboards and sings harmony. Yvonne plays bass on one of the keyboards and melody & accompaniment on the other. Debbie also operates the tempermental drum machine... Their musical presentation is an outstanding mix of old and current country western along with classic rock oldies. They have over 500 songs in their repertoire that invite you to listen, dance and sing along!

This duo has played at many events throughout the community including the Festival of the Arts, Sundays in the Park, The Kingman Reunion, Rotary Oktoberfest, Dig-n-Dogie Rodeo, 66 Fun Run, Mohave County Fair, Business Showcase, Boys & Girls Club Telethon, Antique Fair, and special events in Metcalfe Park and Centennial Park. Along with the community events, Aces performs at numerous types of private parties such as weddings, anniversaries, graduations, business grand openings, retirements, birthdays, and class and family reunions. They have provided entertainment at several local fraternal organizations such as the Elks and Eagles Clubs and the Moose Lodge, and continue at local gathering places such as the Hualapai Resort & The Cellar Door Wine Bar.

Yvonne (right) is a Kindergarten Teacher at Hualapai Elementary School, the mother of two young men, and gives music lessons on the side.

Debbie (below) is a Civil Engineer, the mother of two young adults (a boy and a girl) and the wife of Kingman native Chuck Casson, Owner/Broker of Century 21-Highland Realty.

Yvonne and Debbie have been friends since junior high school days in the cities of Gilbert and Mesa, Arizona, where they met performing in youth church musicals. Yvonne was the piano accompanist, while Debbie's strength was in vocals. They both learned to play the guitar while in high school. The pair continued to play music and sing at one or the other's home throughout high school and college. Playing music together has always been an integral part of their friendship as well as a favorite pastime, and they continue to work on new music on a weekly basis.

A few years after college graduation, Yvonne and Debbie entered a Dodge Country Show-Down contest in Flagstaff, Arizona. They did not win, but were offered a job playing music during dinner hours at a local steakhouse every Friday night, which continued until marriage and children began taking most of their free time.

Debbie moved to Kingman, then Yvonne followed seven years later, and for the first time the two actually resided in the same city. Approximately fifteen years ago they began to participate in jam sessions at the Olde Town Coffeehouse, and later became regulars on Friday nights. They gradually built up a repertoire that was adequate to spread out to local venues including bars, lodges, the county fair and special events.

Yvonne and Debbie were the Grand Winners in a Country/Western talent contest sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles on August 31, 2001 after five weeks of semi-final contests.

Highlights

Some of the highlights of their musical careers include playing every weekend at Sassie Sue's Bar in the Pioneer Hotel and Gambling Hall in Laughlin, NV in late 2003 throughout 2004. ACES continues to play at special events and parties in Laughlin at the Pioneer Hotel, Ramada Express, the Flamingo and the Riverside Casino from time to time. They began playing twice a month at the Hualapai Mountain Resort just south of Kingman in early 2006 and continue to make music up there on a regular basis. Yvonne & Debbie were able to perform at several Nashville watering holes such as "Legends," "Tootsie's Orchid Lounge" and "Nashville Crossroads" in 2009 and 2011 while visiting the area.
