        Exploring Lassen County's Past and more . . .

Susanville Cemetery
Susanville, Lassen County

The cemetery is located at Pine and Courts at the west end of town, near the Lassen County Courthouse--Location Map. It is one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Lassen County.

The cemetery was established when young Perry Craig drowned in the Susan River in November 1860 (no marker for the grave). In 1918 the County deemed it “closed” and no longer made plots available. In 1919 the Lassen Cemetery was opened on Chestnut Street. Even though the Susanville Cemetery was deemed closed, internments have continued with.99 internments in the years between
1978 and 2001.

It should be noted that approximately 30% of the graves have no markers. The compiler has included
those known to be buried in the cemetery.
